Sound of Music

So the girls and I attended the Theatre IV production of Jack and the Beanstalk last weekend and all three of us LOVED it! I posted a review on their Facebook page detailing the girls' excitement over the show and my awe at the creativity of the production and the energy of the cast. I received an e-mail the next day that said that they used my review in some of their promotional e-mails and as thanks they were going to give me two free tickets to see their next show, The Sound of Music, on the date and time of my choice. How great is that?

Matching Clothes?

I have ALWAYS avoided dressing the girls in matching clothes. I will come close to matching, such as different types of clothes in matching colors or the same style in different colors, but that is as close as I have ever gotten to matching them. Even for pictures (much to the chagrin of some of my in laws). Well, today I succumbed to the pressure as I found the most amazing turquoise, yellow, and white sundresses (Gymboree) at a consignment sale today that were exact matches in 3T and 2T. I couldn't resist. Something came over me. And you know what, they may just wear them in some pictures together. Yikes!

Addison's Dress

Savannah's Dress

Easter Dresses

I was afraid I wouldn't make it to the RAMOM (Richmond Area Mothers of Multiples) consignment sale that I go to twice a year. That is where I typically pick up Easter dresses for the girls that are in great shape and at a great price. Because I didn't think the three of us would survive the sale together (you'd have to experience it to understand the insanity that would be having Sav & Add tag along), I hit eBay. And I was successful. I got Addison's dress for $0.99 and Savannah's for $2.00. Take a look above at the dresses.

Starting Over

More than once in my life, I have had to start over. Whether it be a job change, a house change, a relationship change. The latest change is a daunting one. Ending a relationship to save my sanity and protect myself and children from future disappointment and heartbreak was finally a decision I was ready to make. I had to make it. I am heartbroken that I couldn't keep Two Plus Two together, but I will not take full responsibility.

Addiction hurt our family. Addiction and failure to communicate. This is a lethal combination. Addiction leads to lack of trust and failure to communicate leads to lack of intimacy. How can a relationship survive that? I was hoping that I could hide the pain from the kids enough to allow them to still benefit from a Two Plus Two family.

I could no longer shelter them. Savannah is just too observant and intelligent. She knew. She tried to shelter Addison, which was successful, but I could no longer bear to hear the questions that Savannah was asking about what was going on in our house. It could be hidden no longer.

So, it was time. Time to go from Two Plus Two to just The Hicks Girls. So here I begin anew.
